The most experienced competitor on Big Break Indian Wells, Robert Floyd is the son of Hall of Famer Raymond Floyd.

Robert has had a prolific golf career.  An All-American at the University of Florida, Robert had every intention of following in his father’s footsteps.   He found out, through life on the Nationwide and the PGA Tour, following that path is a tall order.

After leaving school early to turn professional, Robert competed on the Nationwide Tour and the PGA TOUR for 15 years, competing in more than 30 professional tournaments on both tours.  In his travels, he learned that life on TOUR also came with enormous challenges to make ends meet.  More importantly, he found it difficult to meet the lofty expectations put on him at a young age.

“Golf has been my entire life,” explained Robert.  “I traveled with my father when he was dominating the PGA TOUR, and got a taste of what that type of success was like.  I had success as an amateur golfer growing up and when I attended Florida, I again tasted that success.  I wanted more.”

That is the Raymond Floyd influence trickling down to his son.  Things did not turn out exactly the way he planned.

Robert realized after turning professional that struggling on the mini-tours and Monday qualifying wasn’t panning out like he hoped.  “I got married and had a family.  I quickly realized that mini-tour life wasn’t going to put food on the table.”

He turned to real estate, where he has thrived.  He has since divorced, and supporting his family always will be his top priority. His desire to compete full-time on the PGA TOUR, however, has never left him.

“Golf is in my genes.  That hunger to compete on the PGA TOUR has never left me, and I don’t think it ever will.”

Robert believes he still has what it takes to make it on the PGA TOUR.  For Robert, Big Break Indian Wells will be his litmus test to pursue that dream of returning to the PGA TOUR.  With his experience – and his Name alone – he just might be on the right track.
