An England native, Tom Abbott dons several hats for Golf Channel, including studio host and commentator for Golf Channel’s live tournament coverage of the European Tour, anchor and reporter for Golf Central and play-by-play host for the network’s LPGA Tour coverage. Abbott also hosts the network’s Big Break original series alongside Stephanie Sparks. Abbott began his golfing career at age 10, encouraged by his father. After playing amateur golf in the UK, he accepted a golf scholarship to Mercer University in Macon, Ga. While in college, Abbott caught the broadcasting bug and worked with local ABC affiliate WPGA-TV in Macon. In addition, he interned with CBS-46 in Atlanta. Before coming to Golf Channel in 2005, Abbott was sports director for WCAV-TV in Charlottesville, Va.
During his time at the Golf Channel, Abbott has covered some of golf’s most memorable moments, including the 2009 Open Championship and Tom Watson’s historic run at the Claret Jug. In addition, he covered Annika Sorenstam’s announcement that she was stepping away from the game, and also reported from Copenhagen when golf was voted into the Olympics and competed as an amateur in the 2009 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship on the European Tour.
