CLIFTON, N.J. (AP)—After failing to find a venue to replace Upper MontclairCountry Club, the Sybase Classic has dropped off the LPGA Tour schedule for2010.
Tournament organizer Octagon Worldwide didn’t renew its contract with UpperMontclair after a three-run at the course, then was unable to reach a deal withEssex County Country Club in West Orange.
“Several components such as appropriate venues for a wide range offunctions, multiple sponsors in several categories and television coverage anddates that fit the LPGA Tour schedule are required to successfully operate thetype of world-class tournament the area has come to expect,” Octagon saidWednesday. “Unfortunately, all of those pieces did not come together in timefor 2010. We are diligently working with all parties involved to bring an LPGATour event back to the area in 2011.”
Before coming to Upper Montclair, the event was held at Wygakyl in NewRochelle, N.Y., where it had been staged since 1990.
While New Jersey has lost the Sybase Classic, the tour will return to theAtlantic City area after a three-year absence. The ShopRite LPGA Classic will beheld June 14-20 at the Seaview Resort in Galloway Township.
