No, Im not interested, she said. I heard it last night from (her agent) Mark Steinberg and I read it in the paper this morning. But Ive said several times that Im through playing against the men.
WHALEY UP NEXT FOR PGA TOUR
Suzy Whaley will be the next women to play a PGA Tour event when the head pro from Avon, Conn., enters the Greater Hartford Open the last week in July. Whaley won a PGA Sectional championship last fall to earn the honor. However, at McDonalds, she shot 79-82 and missed the cut.
You try as hard as you can and do the best you can, she said philosophically. For me, today I had a rotten day at the office. Im glad I have a day job.
CLOSE, BUT NO
Hee-Wan Han came about as close as you can to a hole-in-one when she lined a 6-iron at the par-3 17th that died less than six inches from the cup.
It just pitched a little below the flag, left, and it obviously faded to the right, said her caddie, Shaun Clews. I dont know ' I cant see the bottom of the pin so we dont know how close it went. I mean ' it obviously just fell short.
A LONG PUTT LOVEFEST
Laura Davies noticed it, but Wendy Ward experienced it. Three long putts, all from outside 30 feet, on three straight holes, fell into the cup off Wards putter. Davies had to mention it.
She said that to me after I made my putt on 18, said Ward. She said, How many times have you made long putts like that in succession? And I said I couldnt tell you the number in a row. Thats definitely a first for me.
Because of the threat of afternoon rains, adjustments have been to the schedule Saturday. The first tee time will be at 7 AM ET and the field ' reduced by the 36-hole cut ' will go off the No. 10 and No. 1 tees.
HEADING HOME EARLY
Two more players withdrew in the second round. Jane Geddes suffered back pains and quit after nine holes. Minny Yeo played 12 holes and was forced to quit because of illness.
