The Boston-area FedEx Cup Playoff event formerly known as the Deutsche Bank Championship will now be called the Dell Technologies Championship beginning in 2017.
The PGA Tour announced the name change Wednesday, noting that the tournament will remain at TPC Boston in Norton, Mass., with its traditional Monday finish on Labor Day.
It's another change for the tournament that annually serves as the second leg of the postseason. Tour officials announced last month that EMC Corporation would be the new title sponsor of the event, but EMC and Dell agreed on a merger that was recently approved, necessitating the name change.
The newly-formed company also sponsors the 64-man WGC match play event held each spring, which will now be called the Dell Technologies Match Play.
The Boston tournament has been played annually since 2003 and will continue to include the top 100 in the FedEx Cup race, with the top 70 players advancing to the BMW Championship. Rory McIlroy won the event this past year en route to the FedEx Cup title.
