It's not unusual for a tournament to offer a prize for a hole-in-one. But a $2.5 million prize? Now, that's unusual.
Of course, there'a catch to the offer being made by next week's Omega Dubai Desert Classic, according to Gulfnews.com. Several catches, in fact.
Catch No. 1: The hole, No. 17 at Emirates Golf Club's Majlis Course, is a par 4. Officially it measures 359 yards, but will be shortened to 325 in the final two rounds.
Catch No. 2: About those final two rounds - that's the only time players can win the prize. Make an ace in Round 1 or 2, you get a nice pat on the back.
Catch No. 3: It's a dogleg par 4, bending to the right.
John Daly is entered, so this could be his chance to make up for losing out on a hole-in-one prize two weeks ago at the Humana Challenge. There were reports that Daly had won a new Hyundai Equus after holing a tee shot during the Monday pro-am, but Daly's shot was actually his second ball from the tee so it wasn't eligible.
