Graeme McDowell, Keegan Bradley and Freddie Jacobson (along with Florida-based brewer The Brew Hub) have teamed up to become the first professional golfers to start their own craft beer company, named GolfBeer Brewing.
The beers will initially be available on draft at select golf courses and restaurants in Florida, then expand to bars and grocery stores in 2015.
The offerings: Jacobson’s Scandinavian Style Blonde Ale (brewed with Crystal malt and a variety of European hops), Bradley’s New England Style Lager (brewed with two-row barley and a variety of North American hops) and McDowell’s Celtic Style Pale Ale (a crisp, refreshing ale with a floral nose and snappy finish). Each beer is between 4.5 percent and 5 percent alcohol by volume.
Golf and alcohol have been intertwined for years, with notable wine labels from Greg Norman to Annika Sorenstam to Luke Donald. But this is the first time that golfers have targeted the 19th-hole beer drinkers.
Said Jacobson, a founding partner of the player-branded beer line: “Our lives have always revolved around golf, but we also are passionate about great beer, so we’re really excited about this.”
