Brooke Henderson on Wednesday received a special exemption into the Ricoh Women’s British Open.
The announcement, which was expected, means that the 17-year-old Canadian star will tee it up in the next two majors, beginning with next week’s U.S. Women’s Open.
The Women’s British Open is scheduled for July 30-Aug. 2 at Turnberry.
Henderson, now No. 46 in the Rolex Rankings, is coming off a tie for fifth at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship.
The LPGA allows non-members six sponsor exemptions, and Henderson has only one remaining: the Canadian Pacific Women’s Open, scheduled for Aug. 20-23. These two majors will not count against her total.
One of the ways Henderson can join the LPGA is to finish the equivalent of top 40 on the money list by season’s end. She has earned $317,470 this season, which would rank 22nd, but guaranteed-money events at the end of the season mean she will only slide down the list.
