NORTON, Mass. – Marc Leishman has been here before.
Last year he arrived at TPC Boston 61st on the FedEx Cup points list, carded rounds of 72-75 to miss the cut and dropped outside the top 70 and failed to advance to the third playoff event.
This year the Australian isn’t any better at 71st on the points list heading into the Deutsche Bank Championship, but he got off to a much better start on Day 1 with an opening 68.
“I definitely don't want to be going home again this year,” said Leishman, who struggled early on Friday, playing his first six holes in 3 over par.
Leishman rebounded on his closing nine (the front nine), with three consecutive birdies to finish his round and was tied for sixth when he completed his day and is currently projected inside the top 70 (56th).
“If I play well, I think I'll be alright. If I don't play well, I don't deserve to be there,” he said. “It's not like I'm really putting a whole lot of pressure on it, but it's on my mind.”
Leishman played the BMW Championship every year since 2009 before last season, but he has advanced to the season finale in Atlanta just once.
