Stacy Lewis is hoping a strong finish this season will help fund a film honoring the founders of the LPGA. Lewis announced this week that she’s launching “Birdies 4 Founders Film,” where she will donate $100 for every birdie she makes to the “The Founders” production, a documentary about the 13 women who started the LPGA in 1950.
The film is a work in progress by Eleven 11 Films, an all-female production team that is working to find the funding it needs to complete the project. Hall of Famer Karrie Webb was touched by efforts to make the film back in March, when she won the JTBC Founders Cup and announced she was donating $25,000 from her winnings to the film project. Rosie Jones, Jane Park and Jenny Lidback are among LPGA pros who have also supported the project.
“I’m blessed to be able to travel the world playing golf for a living because 64 years ago 13 very courageous women made it all possible by founding what is now the LPGA,” Lewis said in a statement. “The Founders film will ensure that their efforts and sacrifices are never forgotten.”
