Stacy Lewis is looking to go wire-to-wire in a bid to win the Reignwood LPGA Classic for her fourth title this year.
With a 5-under-par 68, Lewis extended her lead through two rounds at the Pine Valley Golf Club in Beijing. At 12 under overall, the Rolex world No. 1 Lewis is two shots ahead of fellow American Brittany Lang (66) and four ahead of Spain’s Belen Mozo (69), Sweden’s Caroline Hedwall (71), Germany’s Caroline Masson (68) and South Korea’s Mirim Lee (68).
Norway’s Suzann Pettersen, No. 4 in the world, shot 66 Friday to move six off the lead. South Korea’s Inbee Park, No. 2 in the world, shot 72 and is seven back.
Though only a handful of Americans made the trip to China this week, Lewis and Lang are putting the U.S. front and center. Fellow Texans who grew up playing against each other, Lewis and Lang will be paired on Saturday.
“More than anything, she's a great friend of mine,” Lewis told reporters in China. “She hasn't really played her best at times this year, so it's good to see her playing some good golf.”
Lang, 29, is looking to win her second LPGA title, to add to her victory at the Manulife Financial Classic. Lewis, 28, is looking to claim her 12th LPGA title.
“I will say it's a little bit intimidating,” Lang said. “I've known Stacy for a long time. I've known her since being in middle school, high school from Texas. She was a late bloomer ... Yeah, definitely going to be out of my element, a little intimidated."
