PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Brittany “Bam Bam” Lincicome lived up to her nickname Friday, seizing the lead halfway through the Wegmans LPGA Championship.
Lincicome pounded her driver around Monroe Golf Club, shooting a 4-under-par 68 to take a three-shot lead over Lexi Thompson and Inbee Park.
“There is no secret why Lexi and I are at the top of the leaderboard, both long hitters taking advantage of the par 5s,” Lincicome said. “I think I hit two 3‑woods each day out there with some bunkers that are kind of in-between yardages. But, yeah, the more I can hit driver, the better. When we go to a golf course and it takes driver out of my hand, I'm pretty bummed. So here, I'm excited.”
Lincicome put herself in position to make a run at winning her second major championship. She won the Kraft Nabisco Championship in 2009. She’s a five-time LPGA winner, but winless the last three seasons.
Lincicome said she isn’t sure why she isn’t putting herself in position to win more often.
“If you know, please tell me,” Lincicome said. “I have no idea. I think my parents would say I'm dating a boy and that's probably why, poor thing.”
Lincicome, 28, is feeling good about her game going into the weekend.
“I feel like all year I've been doing a lot of good things, hitting well, putting well, chipping well, they just don't seem to all come together on the same day,” Lincicome said
