HARRISON, N.Y. – Inbee Park could take home more than the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship trophy Sunday at Westchester Country Club.
She looks like a virtual lock to take the Rolex world No. 1 ranking whether she takes home the trophy or not.
With No. 1 Lydia Ko missing the cut, No. 2 Park needed only to finish 29th or better to overtake Ko, as long as Stacy Lewis didn’t win. Lewis will start Sunday nine shots off the lead.
With a 7-under-par 66 Saturday, Park grabbed the 54-hole lead. She’s two shots ahead of Sei Young Kim.
Park is looking to ascend to No. 1 for the third time. She first moved to No. 1 on April 15, 2013, and reigned there for 59 weeks. She took it back from Lewis on Oct. 27, 2014, and held it for 14 weeks before Ko took over on Feb. 2.
