After withdrawing from the Valero Texas Open on Saturday, Phil Mickelson said that he was headed back to San Diego for a doctor’s visit.
Just not immediately.
There was family business to attend to first, as Lefty was spotted in the front row at the San Antonio Spurs’ game Saturday night. He had promised to take 14-year-old daughter Amanda to the game, according to Bernie McGuire.
Mickelson’s face was splashed on the Jumbotron, with a coyote (wearing a green jacket) holding up a “NOISE” sign behind him.
Mickelson acknowledged the crowd, McGuire said, and Amanda received a Spurs T-shirt. The 43-year-old reportedly left Sunday morning for San Diego, where he will have his ailing right side checked out.
It is still unclear whether Mickelson will be able to compete in next week’s Shell Houston Open. “I hope I’ll be OK to play,” he said, “but I just don’t know.”
