Thomas Pieters is set to become one of European Ryder Cup captain Darren Clarke’s three wildcard picks.
The 24-year-old Belgian, who won for the third time in the past 12 months Sunday, will join veterans Lee Westwood and Martin Kaymer in filling out the 12-man roster, Golf Channel insider Tim Rosaforte reported Monday on "Golf Central" citing an anonymous source.
An official announcement will be made at 7:30 a.m. ET Tuesday and air live on Golf Channel.
The addition of Pieters means that the Europeans will bring six rookies to Hazeltine. Clarke balanced that inexperience by choosing Westwood and Kaymer, who have combined to make 14 Ryder Cup appearances.
Left out are world No. 20 Russell Knox, who has won twice this season (including the WGC-HSBC Champions), and Ryder Cup stalwarts Luke Donald and Graeme McDowell.
Pieters made his final case Sunday at the European Tour's Made in Denmark, where he closed with 65 to win for the third time in the past year.
