Two of the marquee names at the Volvo World Match Play are heading home.
Patrick Reed lost to George Coetzee, 2 and 1, while Victor Dubuisson fell to Mikko Ilonen, 2 down. Reed also lost to Coetzee at the WGC Match Play in February.
Coetzee will square off against Henrik Stenson in the semifinals Sunday morning after the Swede took out fellow countryman Jonas Blixt, 2 up. Stenson and Coetzee halved their match on Wednesday in the first day of round-robin play.
But the favorite going into the final day might be Joost Luiten, who thumped Pablo Larrazabal, 6 and 5. Luiten has yet to lose a match this week, and he took down defending champion Graeme McDowell on Friday and his semifinal opponent Ilonen on Wednesday.
Reed made the quarterfinals after knocking out Ryder Cup hero Jamie Donaldson on Friday, but he ran into a red-hot Coetzee on Saturday. The South African made seven birdies and no bogeys, but Reed hung tough and was only 1 down after making birdie at the par-5 15th. But Coetzee drained a long birdie putt on the par-3 16th to regain a 2-up lead, and Reed was unable to chip in for birdie on 17 to extend the match.
The semifinals will be held Sunday morning, and the final match in the afternoon. Coverage begins at 3 a.m. ET on Golf Channel.
