Adam Scott and Cameron Tringale are tied at 8 under par after 36 holes in the opening event of the FedEx Cup playoffs, The Barclays. Here is the skinny on the second round at Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus, N.J.
The leaderboard: Adam Scott (-8), Cameron Tringale (-8), Kevin Chappell (-7), Brendon Todd (-7), Jim Furyk (-7), Henrik Stenson (-6), Ernie Els (-6), Bo Van Pelt (-6), Russell Knox (-6), Jason Day (-6), Kevin Na (-6)
What it means: Scott birdied the 18th hole to shoot 65, one stroke off the low round of the day. Tringale backed up his first-round 66 with a 3-under 68.
Round of the day: Stenson, who won the Tour Championship and the FedEx Cup a year ago, made eight birdies and one bogey in his 7-under 64.
Best of the rest: World No. 1 Rory McIlroy began the day in a fight to make the cut, but easily accomplished that with a 6-under 65, matching Scott.
Shot(s) of the day: These are listed not because they were successful, but because of how unusual the circumstances surrounding them were. Phil Mickelson hit his second shot on the drivable, par-4 fifth hole from a hospitality area. Seung-Yul Noh hit his approach shot on the 11th hole from the third green - a no-no that cost him a two-stroke penalty.
Biggest disappointment: Brandt Snedeker and Webb Simpson, trying to influence Tom Watson to make them Ryder Cup captain's picks, shot 74 and 72, respectively, and missed the cut.
Main storyline heading into the weekend: Only the top 100 in the FedEx Cup standings after The Barclays will advance to the next playoff event, next week's Deutsche Bank Championship outside Boston.
