CHERRY HILLS VILLAGE, Colo. – Bubba Watson got himself in the hunt Friday taking advantage of the extra length the mile-high altitude gives players at the BMW Championship.
Watson eagled the 17th hole, a 560-yard par 5, blasting his driver 364 yards, setting up a 9-iron that he hit to 5 feet.
With a 4-under-par 66, Watson is four shots off the lead, tied for fifth.
“I'm hitting quite a few drivers,” Watson said. “Yeah, hitting it all right. Trying to hit them as hard as I can so it gets way down there.”
Watson leads the field in driving distance for all drives this week, averaging 326 yards per drive.
With Cherry Hills featuring some short drivable par 4s, with reachable par 5s, Watson’s driver is an effective weapon, especially at this altitude.
