ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – It was last year at the RSM Classic that Patton Kizzire got his first taste of success on the PGA Tour.
So it was only apropos that on Wednesday at Sea Island Resort that the rookie was named the 2015 Web.com Tour Player of the Year.
Kizzire, who moved to Sea Island after leaving Auburn, tied for 54th at last year’s RSM Classic, playing on a sponsor exemption and opening the week with a 66 that left him tied for fifth place through one round.
He returns this year as one of the Tour’s hottest players, posting top-5 finishes in his first two starts this season.
“The move down here was a big player,” Kizzire said. “I started butting heads, in a good way, with some players - Davis Love, Zach Johnson, Matt Kuchar, Harris English - and the confidence came with the results.”
The results came quickly in 2015 when he won twice, at the Utah Championship and New Sentinel Open, and posted 12 top-10 finishes on his way to Web.com's regular-season money title.
Kizzire joins a list of Web.com Tour Player of the Year winners that includes Johnson, Jimmy Walker and Tom Lehman. He will have fully exempt status for the 2015-16 Tour season, including a spot in The Players.
