HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. -- The Purdue women's golf team won its fourth tournament in five outings this fall with a final-round victory over Arizona State Hooters Collegiate Match Play Championship on Saturday.
The Boilermakers defeated the Sun Devils, 4 to 1. Purdue earned victories from senior Onnarin Sattayabanphot (1-up), freshman Christel Boeljon (2-up), freshman Maria Hernandez (1-up) and sophomore Whitney Frykman (19 holes).
'We don't play a lot of match play, and we were excited to go head-to-head with the best in the country this week' said head coach Devon Brouse. 'We were fortunate to come out on top. We've won four of the five tournaments this fall, and I'm thrilled with how we've played.'
The third-ranked Boilermakers were the No. 2 seed in the event. Second-ranked UCLA was the top-seeded team, but lost to Arizona State in the semifinals.
The unique event featured 16 teams and was played at the Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort. Invitation to the tournament was based on 2005 national championships finish.
The Boilermakers are next in action on Feb. 24 to 25 when they host the Lady Puerto Rico Classic in San Juan, P.R.
