PRATTVILLE, Ala. – Seriously bad news coming out of Great Britain for the U.S. Solheim Cup team.
The odds set by bookmakers over there have an eerie familiarity for American golf fans.
Boylesports, Coral and Betfred all make the United States a heavy 4/9 favorite to win next week in Ireland.
Those are the same odds the American Walker Cup team was favored by to beat Great Britain & Ireland last week. GB&I upset the American juggernaut.
The Americans have won the last three Solheim Cups by comfortable margins.
“You can’t say your team is great and you are going to walk all over the other team,” Morgan Pressel said. “It’s just not going to happen. It’s not how it works, whether you look better on paper or not. These kind of events bring out the best in players. You look at highlight reels of Solheim Cups, and you always see fantastic shots, almost a season full of highlights all in one week.”
Pressel says the Americans ought to be underdogs because of the nature of playing on the road.
“I think anytime you go play in their territory, you instantly become the underdogs,” Pressel said. “We are going to go out and play like we are the underdogs. I think the teams are so tight on paper, it’s hard to call either team a favorite.”
