Steve Elkington found himself in more Twitter trouble this weekend after joking about a helicopter that crashed into a pub in Scotland and killed eight people.
Late Friday night, Elkington tweeted “Helicopter crashes into Scottish pub.....Locals report no beer was spilt….” The tweet has since been deleted.
Elkington attempted to apologize for the earlier tweet (below), saying he had seen a report of no casualties, but the fact that he even tweeted after the accident drew the ire of many of his 57,000-plus followers and prompted a critical column in the Scotsman newspaper.
Our report was helicopter flopped on Pub ... No injuries... Obviously it's very serious...— Steve Elkington (@elkpga) November 30, 2013
In July, Elkington used a racist term for Pakistanis on Twitter and later released a statement, reading, in part, “Being Australian, I was unaware that my use of language in relation to the Pakistani people would cause offence. … I now deeply regret the use of that terminology.”
