For the third consecutive year, Tiger Woods will share the cover of EA Sports’ Tiger Woods PGA Tour golf series. The video game maker announced Monday that fans will decide who joins Woods via Facebook.
Based upon performance and popularity, 16 players were selected to face off in a tournament-style voting competition for the cover. The players are grouped by continent – United States and Europe – in anticipation of the 2012 Ryder Cup at Medinah. The winner of the American bracket will appear on copies of the game distributed in the U.S., while the European winner will share the cover for copies available on their continent.
The Americans on the ballot are Ben Crane, Rickie Fowler, Jim Furyk, Dustin Johnson, Zach Johnson, Hunter Mahan, Rocco Mediate and Bubba Watson. The Europeans are Paul Casey, Luke Donald, Ross Fisher, Graeme McDowell, Rory McIlroy, Edoardo Molinari, Ian Poulter and Justin Rose.
The contest will run from Oct. 3-23 on the game's Facebook page and winners will be announced Oct. 24. The game will be available for purchase in March 2012.
In the 2011 version, Woods shared the cover with Rory McIlroy to promote the game’s Ryder Cup functionality. Last year, Woods’ image was absent from the cover as Augusta National graced the front with the franchise’s Masters edition.
