TURNBERRY, Scotland – Day 1 looms at the Open Championship and although the docket has nothing as intriguing as a Colin Montgomerie-Sandy Lyle pairing, there are some interesting three-balls to watch.
Keep an eye on:
*Group 15 at 9:09 a.m. (GMT) because it’s Tiger Woods, the Japanese Tiger Woods (Ryo Ishikawa) and one of the hottest European at the moment (Lee Westwood).
*The 12:25 p.m. group of Sir Nick Faldo, Soren Kjeldsen and Brian Gay. No, not because Faldo is a Golf Channel colleague, but because we’ve never seen a title on a tee sheet.
*The 12:58 p.m. threesome of the game’s past (Ernie Els), present (Lucas Glover) and future (Martin Kaymer)
*And the 1:31 p.m. “future is now” three-ball of Rory McIlroy, Anthony Kim and Retief Goosen – seems the Goose didn’t get the memo that this group was only for fearless 20somethings.
