EDISON, N.J. – In the latest sign that every professional golfer is switching to a longer putter, Robert Garrigus revealed he will be using a longer one this week, too.
That’s right – his 29-inch model is out, replaced by a 31-inch version.
“I saw this belly putter stuff and thought, ‘Hey, maybe if I make my putter a little longer.’ You never know,” Garrigus said. “It’s got me standing up a little bit more, which is only a couple of inches. It’s still a small guy, but it feels a little different.”
Garrigus, who ranks 155th on the PGA Tour in total putting, will still have a Scotty Cameron flatstick in the bag at this week’s Barclays tournament.
“I can’t putt any worse than I have been,” he explained. “It’s really gotten bad. I’m making putts, I’m just not getting on those rolls like I used to get on. Maybe something different will change that up. We’ll see what happens.”
