LEMONT, Ill. – Hunter Mahan is currently ranked eighth on the United States Presidents Cup points list, but with so many players tightly packed for the last of the 10 automatic qualifying berths, he understands his place on the roster may be in jeopardy.
If he falls outside the top-10, he doesn’t expect to be one of Fred Couples’ captain’s picks.
“I assume he would pick Keegan Bradley,” Mahan said. “I would pick Keegan. In my mind, the picks are done. I don’t know how he wouldn’t pick Keegan. That’s a no-brainers. I think he’s earned it more than anybody else.”
Bradley owns two wins this season, including the PGA Championship, where he became the first U.S. player to win a major since last year’s Masters. As a rookie, though, with only one year of earning points under his belt, Bradley ranks 20th on the current list.
Couples has previously announced that Tiger Woods will be one of the wildcard picks, leaving just one to be released on Sept. 27.
