The winner of the Olympic golf course design contest will be decided in February, according to a source familiar with the situation.
This month, eight design teams were named as finalists to win a contract to design the course which will host the Olympic golf tournament in Rio de Janeiro in 2016. It will mark golf's first appearance in the Olympics since 1904.
The final teams have met with the Rio 2016 organizers in Brazil and toured the site in preparation for a final presentation at the end of January. Shortly thereafter, a winner will be chosen.
The eight finalists are a who's who from the design and competition community. The entries include Greg Norman and Lorena Ochoa; Jack Nicklaus and Annika Sorenstam; Gary Player Design; Gil Hanse; Tom Doak; Robert Trent Jones II; Hawtree Ltd., and the trio of Peter Thomson, Ross Perrett and Karrie Webb.
