Jiyai Shin headed to the Ricoh Women’s British Open at Royal Birkdale Sunday night filled with confidence after her victory at the Evian Masters vaulted her back to No. 1 in the Rolex Women's World Golf Rankings.
Shin made her first big splash internationally winning the Women’s British Open two years ago at Sunningdale. It counted as her first LPGA title and brought her more than a new level of respect and recognition. It brought her to the LPGA full time as a member the following season. In 2009, she claimed the LPGA exemption that came with the Women's British Open title.
“The victory probably changed my life,” Shin said by telephone after winning the Evian Masters. 'I have good memories of the British Open.'
Shin headed to Royal Birkdale Sunday without having set foot on the golf course before.
“But I have seen it,” Shin said. “When Jeong Jang won there in 2005, I watched on TV.”
