It’s not legally-binding like the attorney-client privilege, but golf instructor Rick Smith feels Hank Haney has violated “player-teacher confidentiality” by penning the forthcoming “The Big Miss” about his six-year relationship as Tiger Woods’ teacher.
'I would rather be broke and not have a penny to my name before I violate the code of player-teacher confidentiality,' Smith said, according to ESPN.com.
'In 27 years out here, I've never done that. I'm personally upset with Hank because he's broken and violated our code of ethics. If you have the opportunity and you're privileged to conversations, you will not and should not share anything from them with anyone. I don't care who it is.'
Smith worked with Phil Mickelson until 2006, when the left-hander moved to Butch Harmon as his primary instructor. With his students, Smith would first seek permission to speak with the media before talking about their relationship. Smith recently hooked up with Rory Sabbatini as his new teacher.
Haney has contended Woods does not have exclusive ownership of story behind their time together.
