Pinehurst No. 2 will host the U.S. Women's Open and U.S. Open in consecutive weeks in 2014.
The North Carolina resort also appears poised to also host the National Open in 2024, according to Golf Digest senior travel editor Matt Ginella.
Speaking to Ginella about the possibility of a ninth course at the resort, Pinehurst resort president and chief executive officer, Don Padgett II, let it slip the U.S. Open may be returning in a decade.
'As we're talking he let it slip about the fact that, 'When the U.S. Open comes back to Pinehurst in 2024,' and I sort of stopped him and said, 'The U.S. Open is coming back to Pinehurst in 2024?,'' said Ginella on 'Morning Drive' on Wednesday. 'And he said, 'Well we don't have a date yet but we'd like to think we're in the rota.''
U.S. Golf Association executive director Mike Davis was noncommittal about the prospect of the '24 Open at Pinehurst in an email to Golf Channel.
“While it is our policy not to speculate on future site announcements,' Davis said, 'we would certainly entertain future USGA events there should an invitation be extended.”
