FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – Most of the first-round’s second wave never made it to Bethpage Black Thursday because of the downpour that suspended play for the day at 10:16 a.m. So following Friday’s marathon outing at the U.S. Open, players gave hints about what they did during the downtime.
Ian Poulter posted an item on his Twitter page that said he went to see the movie “The Hangover.” Several others said they mostly remained at their hotel rooms and watched movies and read books.
Then there is Phil Mickelson, who always has his unique way of describing a situation.
“I saw a movie,” he said. “It was ‘The Taking of Pelham 123.’ I had already seen ‘The Hangover,’ that was good. We went to Borders and picked up some books and DVDs and stuff.
“Oh, I went and worked out, too. Yeah, I don’t want to leave that one out.”
Oh, Phil. Always the funnyman.
