FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – GolfChannel.com colleague Jay Coffin nailed it in his Sunday wrap up: the New York galleries are getting this one wrong.
The NYC masses love Phil Mickelson and are infatuated with Ricky Barnes but have been largely indifferent toward the current U.S. Open front-runner Lucas Glover. They may change their minds if they were to learn that Glover is a life-long Yankees fan who can rattle off stats and batting averages going back decades.
The Bronx Bombers hold such a special place in his heart he is in a lottery to buy three seats from the old Yankee Stadium. Sources close to Glover say he was dying to attend a game at the new Yankee Stadium this week, but forced himself to focus on Bethpage and his game. Good call.
