Masters champion Danny Willett traded his polo shirt for a New York Yankees jersey on Sunday to throw the ceremonial first pitch at Yankee Stadium.
Americans take baseball seriously and the Englishman knew there would be pressure riding on the throw. “You’re better off throwing it long than short, or you get booed,” Willett said.
Despite the grand stage, Willett seemed anything but nervous as he walked toward the pitcher’s mound while chewing gum and tossing the ball from hand to hand.
A pitch down the outside corner earned Willett praise from the game’s announcers. And unlike the Masters, both Willett’s wife and son were able to witness the event in person.
This isn’t the first stop for Willett and his green jacket. Earlier this month he spent the day at Wimbledon, joining Jack Nicklaus and other special guests in the Royal Box.
Stay tuned to see where Willett will take his green jacket next!
