RIO DE JANEIRO – Stacy Lewis is as fierce of a competitor as there is in golf. But she’s happy to have lowered expectations this week at the Olympics.
Lewis played six weeks in a row, ending with the Women’s British Open in late July. Then, well, she got married.
“I probably didn’t have the best preparation coming into this, but I did have the best day of my life,” Lewis said Tuesday, on the eve of the women’s portion of the Olympics.
But that’s OK. Lewis desperately wants to win the Olympics for the red, white and blue, but she understands that this week is more about soaking in the experience than it is playing her best golf.
“It’s getting closer to where I want it to be,” she said. “But I want to enjoy the week truthfully. It’s not a grinding week, it’s an enjoying week.
“There is a line, but you also want to experience the Olympics. I don’t want to leave here with any regrets.”
