Play Resumes in The Players Championship
PGA Tour officials halted play at 1:08pm. Because of the suspension, the event will finish Monday morning. The players will complete as many holes as possible on Sunday until darkness descends on the Stadium Course at the TPC at Sawgrass.
Jerry Kelly holds a two-shot lead at 11-under-par over Tiger Woods and Vijay Singh. Kelly and Woods are in the final pairing, which tees off roughly an hour after the redemption of play.
Kelly is in search of his first Tour victory. During the delay, he said: 'It actually calmed me down a little bit.'
In addition to an emotional benefit, Kelly also believes the suspension will help his game.
'I think it's easier for me to make more birdies and tougher for others to come from behind,' he said.
This is the second consecutive year that this $6 million event will be completed on a Monday. Last year, Hal Sutton and Woods were forced to finish their final seven holes on the fifth day of play. Sutton eventually held off Woods for the victory and the $1,080,000 first-place prize (the same reward as this year).
Woods is seeking his 26th Tour title and his second in as many weeks. Last week, he won the Bay Hill Invitational, which he led by one shot entering the final round.
NBC will air the completion of the final round from 10:00am ET until Noon.
