FOX Sports Australia Reporter Luke Elvy is in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL this week for THE PLAYERS. Jarrod Lyle is in Australia battling leukemia for a second time and Elvy said that it is a difficult situation for Lyle and his family. This is a two-year treatment and depending on the chemotherapy results, he will have a bone marrow transplant in June. He kept in touch with Jarrod during The Masters and Jarrod has been trying to keep positive and keep his sense of humor. A lot of players, including Rickie Fowler last week, have been wearing Leuk the Duck pins to show their support. For more information, go to challenge.org.au.
A couple of Aussies, Aaron Baddeley and Geoff Ogilvy, have made putter changes recently and the change has been a big one for Baddeley. Geoff Ogilvy is starting to see some early results with his putter change as he has gotten off to a hot start in the 2012 PLAYERS. They have seen what a putter change can do for fellow Aussie Adam Scott as Scott won a WGC event in 2011 and Elvy said that Scott is about to ramp up his schedule and he would not be surprised to see Scott win later this year. Australia needs some winners as an Aussie has yet to win on the 2012 PGA TOUR.
When it comes to Aussies who can contend at TPC Sawgrass, Elvy looks at Baddeley, Ogilvy, and Jason Day above all of the others although Adam Scott is certainly someone to watch as well. With no Aussies on the list of winners on the 2012 PGA TOUR, THE PLAYERS would be a great place to end the drought.
