World Golf Hall of Fame Member Nick Price was named the Captain of the 2013 International Presidents Cup this week at Muirfield Village where the 2013 competition will be held. During his news conference on Tuesday, he said that this was the happiest that he has been in golf in the last five or six years. Price said that the Captaincy is a huge honor for him and something that he is passionate about. He has enjoyed playing on the Champions Tour over the last few years and it has been a lot of fun but the Captaincy is a great honor that he will take very seriously.
A lot of the decisions that he will make as Captain will be made based on the input of his players. Price said that he is going to try his best to make sure that his players have a great time because he finds that when everyone is having fun, they tend to play better. He does not think it is necessary to be negative and feels it is his responsibility to keep morale up and make sure that everyone is happy and having a great time that week.
Some of his favorite moments as a player in the Presidents Cup include being a member of the winning team at Royal Melbourne in 1998. After having their backsides whipped so to speak in 1994 and 1996, everyone on the team was eager to go to Australia and win the Presidents Cup. Everyone on that team played so well and they were able to take advantage of a U.S. team that came to Australia a bit tired. It was also a great joy to be able to win the point that clinched the Presidents Cup for the International team when he defeated David Duval in Singles.
