Last week at the CME Group Titleholders, Stacy Lewis officially accepted the 2012 LPGA Tour Player of the Year award. Lewis is the first American since Beth Daniel in 1994 to win the honor. She received the honor before the CME Group Titleholders started and Lewis admitted that she had lost some of her concentration since clinching the honor in large part because she has been so busy with responsibilities outside of actually competing in the tournament.
The significance of winning the Player of the Year award had not entirely set in until she actually walked up on stage at the ceremony to accept the trophy. Realizing that she was surrounded by friends and family as she accepted this award was very humbling and she was very emotional during her acceptance speech.
Looking ahead to 2013, Lewis said that there are always little things you can do to improve your swing but something that she needs to do is improve her attitude for next year. While improving attitude is one of her goals for 2013, she is not planning to sit down and really contemplate other 2013 goals for a while because she wants to be able to enjoy the offseason and reflect on her 2012 season.
She is friends with World #1 Yani Tseng and they have played a lot of golf together since she won the 2011 Kraft Nabisco Championship. During that time, she has learned a great deal from Yani about how to win and how to contend on a consistent basis. They have also become friends and when they were playing together in the final round of the Mizuno Classic in Japan, Yani encouraged her to birdie the last hole.
She is playing in the Handa Heroes event which is sponsored by ISPS Handa. They are a big sponsor of the Legends Tour and she is very excited to play with Betsy King. King is a player that she respects a great deal and she is also excited that the event will be seen on Golf Channel on Wednesday.
