On Monday’s Morning Drive, Rosaforte reported that after the U.S. team lost to Europe in the Ryder Cup, Tiger Woods met with the group of U.S. rookies and personally apologized to them for not winning points for the team. On Sunday night, he was the MC at Brandt Snedeker’s charity event and he heard this story while interviewing Snedeker and Bill Haas. Rosaforte said that the fact that Tiger made such a genuine effort to be a team player and take responsibility for what he did and what he did not do is a big positive for Tiger’s image in the future. Tiger said that it was his job to win points and that he failed to do his job and he was sorry. Both Snedeker and Keegan Bradley said that it was ridiculous to say that Tiger Woods did not care about the Ryder Cup and that it was ridiculous that he had a losing record in spite of all that he had contributed to the team.
In his second visit to Tuesday’s Morning Drive, Rosaforte began by saying that Venturi is a link to the past, present, and future of golf and how Venturi also mentored a number of players including John Cook. When John Cook won the Charles Schwab Cup Championship at Harding Park where Venturi had had so much success, Cook felt that he played better because of the connection with Venturi and he believed that played better when Venturi watched him. Venturi has always believed in paying it forward in large part because his own mentor Byron Nelson advised him to do that.
There are a number of players who could be inducted in 2013 alongside Venturi and Fred Couples including Laura Davies, Colin Montgomerie, and Ian Woosnam. Venturi is being inducted through the Lifetime Achievement Category and that is the reason why people such as Dan Jenkins who have deserved to be inducted were finally included in the World Golf Hall of Fame.
Tiger Woods has said that he wants to be a Ryder Cup Captain someday although he hopes that it will not be for many years to come because he wants to continue competing in the Ryder Cup. The Ryder Cup is a team environment and it is different from anything else in the game of golf whether you are referring to the players or the fans. Woods opened up about a number of topics during this year’s Ryder Cup including how Michael Jordan took him out for a lot of drinks and how he takes personal responsibility for the U.S. team losing because he did not win enough points.
