Baltusrol Replaces Country Club for 05 PGA Championship
The Country Club played host to the historic 1999 Ryder Cup Matches and officials at the Country Club said that 'the same resources are not available to the Club in 2005.'
'As a result, we were faced with the need to downsize the scope of services for spectators, local corporations and the media,' said Country Club member John Cornish, the general chairman of the 1999 Ryder Cup Matches. 'The Club presented this to The PGA and concurred with The PGA that these changes would not be in the best interest of the PGA Championship.'
That decision opened the door for Baltusrol, a host of seven U.S. Open Championships, to host the 87th PGA Championship, their first.
'We are honored to bring the PGA Championship to Baltusrol,' said PGA of America Chief Executive Officer Jim Awtrey. 'Baltusrol Golf Club is synonymous with championship golf and we look forward to continuing our tradition of matching the world's greatest golfers with the world's greatest courses.'
'We look forward to continuing our history of hosting major championships and look forward to this relationship with The PGA of America,' said Baltusrol Golf Club President Roderick McRae. 'The world's greatest golfers make up the PGA Championship and many of those players will mark their return to Baltusrol.'
The dates for the 87th PGA Championship have not been announced.
