'We're not out of it by any stretch of the imagination,' American captain Martha Kirouac said following the morning foursomes. 'We'll come out hard this afternoon.'
The Americans responded to their captain and Paula Creamer led the charge for the Americans with a 5-and-3 trouncing of Fame More. Michelle Wie was equally as impressive with a 5-and-4 win over Anna Highgate.
Wie, who teamed with Brittany Lang in an early loss in the foursomes, took the lead in her afternoon match despite a six on the opening hole. She conceded the second and fell 1-down with a bogey at the par-3 fifth.
The 14-year-old phenom battled back with four straight wins starting at the sixth to go 3-up in her match. Wie won the 11th with a par and birdied the 13th to put her match out of reach.
Jane Park took charge of her match with Shelley McKevitt early on the back side for a 4-and-3 victory. Annie Thurman disposed of Anne Laing by the same margin.
The most highly contested match Saturday afternoon came down to American Erica Blasberg and Danielle Masters.
Masters won two holes early to open a 2-up lead but the European could not hold the advantage. Blasberg fought back and squared the match with pars at the fifth and sixth holes.
Blasberg then took a commanding advantage on the inward half and looked to be in control at 3-up through 12 holes. Masters countered and managed to square the match with a par at the 17th.
Masters' late effort wasn't enough in the end and Blasberg took the match for the Americans with an 8-foot birdie putt at the last to win, 1-up.
Emma Duggleby was the lone bright spot for Great Britain & Ireland in the afternoon with 3-and-2 win over Elizabeth Janangelo.
'I can see the team are definitely on a downer after this afternoon,' said Great Britain & Ireland captain Ada O'Sullivan. 'I'm going to tell them tomorrow is a whole new series.'
