Naturally, you must play golf on Florida's Nature Coast

Do you want to incorporate some hiking, boating, fishing and wildlife viewing in your next Florida golf experience? Head to the Nature Coast, the aptly named, less-traveled region on the upper western coast of the state brimming with almost 400 freshwater springs, dense hardwood forests, marshlands, rolling hills and pristine Gulf of Mexico waters. For golfers, the menu includes layouts designed by top architects in a variety of resort, daily-fee and residential community settings.

Las Vegas

Roll the dice: A Las Vegas vacation is not complete without golf

The Rat Pack and Elvis are but distant memories. But you won't forget a visit to the city that is forever changing. Las Vegas' desert heat bakes today's irrigated golf courses in summer, when fees take a dip lower, but the game can be played all year. Here are some Las Vegas golf courses you might consider.

Palm Springs

Four golf courses in the Palm Springs area that you might have missed

The Palm Springs region and entire Coachella Valley offers one of the country's best pockets of prime golf courses. But by digging beneath the topsoil, one will uncover a host of fun and engaging desert challenges that are certain to elude most travel guides. Judd Spicer has more on four of them: the Norman Course at PGA West, Heritage Palms G.C., Rancho Las Palmas and Woodhaven Country Club.

Miami

From Miami to Fort Lauderdale, diverse designs dominate south Florida golf menu

Donald Ross, Robert Trent Jones Sr., Joe Lee, Bobby Weed and other architects designed a wide array of golf courses in south Florida that have stood the test of time. Distinguishing its layouts from ones in other parts of the peninsula are the mature trees, towering palms, tropical foliage and lakes that give the courses a sense of place and history. The menu in the Miami and Fort Lauderdale area is an eclectic one offering golfers of all skill levels great places to tee up.

Ireland

Southwest Ireland: Storied links allure presidents, celebrities and droves of golf fanatics

Ireland has far more fabulous golf courses than it really needs. Three of the very best are in the southwestern counties of Kerry and Clare, but they are only part of the appeal of golf in Ireland. What makes it irresistibly attractive are the wonderful characters and barely believable stories that enrich the overall experience, Clive Agran writes.

Get to know Jack Nicklaus Jr. at the Golf Club of Estrella in Goodyear

Opened in 1999, the Golf Club of Estrella is Jack Nicklaus Jr.'s only solo effort in Arizona. The greens don't have the wild undulations that have become synonymous with the Nicklaus name, but there's no doubt the eldest son of the 18-time major champion likes to serves up a hearty portion of intimidation from the tee, just like his old man. Wes Gilbertson has more from Goodyear, Ariz.

Ten reasons to plan your dream golf vacation to the links of northwest Ireland

Northwest Ireland has risen to prominence in golf and accommodations and is comparable to the great links courses in southwest Ireland and Northern Ireland. Jason Scott Deegan offers up 10 reasons why a golf trip to northwest Ireland should be your next overseas escape.

Phoenix - Scottsdale

You can see for miles at Raven Golf Club at Verrado west of Phoenix

It takes about 35 minutes to put Phoenix in the rear view mirror en route to the Raven Golf Club at Verrado. It takes approximately the same amount of time -- or even a few minutes less, if you keep your ball on the short stuff -- to climb up to the third tee and catch another glimpse of the downtown skyline. If value is important, the Raven at Verrado should be on your list of must-play Arizona golf courses.

Dallas

Iron Horse Golf Club northeast of Fort Worth is a stiff but enjoyable ride

Iron Horse Golf Club is only a par 70, which is like playing a 7,000-yard, par-72 course. And beyond that, most of the holes at Iron Horse require placement over length. This really is a challenging course that plays much more difficult than its yardage. The shorter holes can be among the most difficult because of the tight windows off the tee. But the best part about Iron Horse really is the overall atmosphere.
