Kilrush

Kilrush, County Clare

Kilrush Golf Club proudly boasts a reputation of being one of the friendliest clubs in the country. Visitors are always welcome and it is an ideally located spot for a golfing tour, as it is in reach of several famous courses including Lahinch, Ballybunion, and Killarney. It was originally founded in 1934 but Dr. Arthur Spring completely redesigned the course in 1994. He cleverly utilized the water hazards and trees of the natural terrain, which he complemented by sprinkling bunkers in strategic areas. The new parkland golf course overlooks the River Shannon, offering views of the Kerry Mountains in the background. The layout features some fairly challenging holes, most notably the final five, which are especially difficult since they play into the prevailing wind. Those who have played Kilrush Golf Club, however, would argue that it is the par-3 ninth that is the most memorable. This hole plays from a plateau to a green that is not only surrounded by water on three sides, it is also already entrenched in a valley.
