Killeline Golf Club plays across gently rolling hills just outside of Newcastle West. Mature woodlands enclose the course, which lends a peaceful and secluded atmosphere. The course is just one of Eddie Hackett's many designs. It is difficult not to play one of this ubiquitous designer's golf courses while in Ireland. It originally opened as a nine-hole course but it was extended to a relatively long 18-hole course, it now measures 6,675 yards. In addition to increasing the length, many features were added to make the course a more demanding challenge. In addition to the numerous trees and shrubs that line the fairways and border the greens, there are bunkers strategically placed throughout. The layout features a tricky series of dogleg par 4s and a few demanding par 5s. It is a popular course partly for the interesting layout but also because of the extremely reasonable green fees. Visitors are welcome at Killeline Golf Club any time but it is best to check tee times in advance on the weekends.
