Castlerock Golf Club's 18-hole Mussenden course began in 1901 as a nine-holer and eventually grew to its present length of 6,747 yards on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean near the river Bann. The links course 5 miles west of Coleraine pits you against swirling winds and intruding sea-grass covered mounds and dunes. One can glimpse Donegal and the Isle of Islay off the coast of Scotland. The Mussenden Course is a par 73 with five par 5s, four par 3s, and nine par 4s. The best-known hole is the fourth, called the Leg o' Mutton, a 200-yard par 3 with a railway line to the right, a burn to the left and a raised green. The sixth hole, called Burn, features a creek in front of the green and No. 9, called Quarry, is a beautiful par 3 over an inland pond.
