-There's a story that's front and center and in addition to the actual action we're gonna see on the court. And no, it doesn't involve Tiger Woods. Rory McIlroy yesterday said that he was likely to take up membership on the PGA Tour next year. We thought this might, and you've been on this and you've talked to Rory and caddied for him, you said 2, 3 years down the road would be your kinda "inkling", but this apparently is kind of a bombshell that he dropped, I don't know, it could be next year. We wanted the perspective, we had the perspective of a bunch of writers. We had John [unk], we've talked to our guys, you and I have broken it down. But let's find out what it's like on the other side of the pond. He's in Akron but he writes for the Irish Sun and we're gonna welcome in Brian Keogh who is been covering this story and has been obviously familiar with Rory McIlroy, how surprised were you that Rory said what he said yesterday and what sort of local reaction to his comments? -I was very surprised really. I know he's been talking about it quietly, you know, behind the scenes with some of his, from his background team and some of the other players, but really I didn't expect Rory to come back out and join the PGA Tour especially in a Writer Cup year but you know he loves it over here, he loves the golf courses over here, he loves the fans over here and he's a major star over here after his U.S. Open win, so it seems like a really logically move for him. -Brian, has there been immediate criticism, obviously you're in Akron but based on what you know back home through the paper, is the reaction just surprised right now, or is there also some surprised disappointment and maybe some anger toward Rory with his strong indication that back to the U.S. in 2012. -Well I don't hear any anger at all. The only anger that would be, would be if Rory McIlroy didn't play in the Irish Open next year, but he said, I asked him about that yesterday, he said no, absolutely, I have to play in the Irish Open, but yeah, there's no doubt, I mean the European Tour will be a little bit disappointed that there gonna lose Rory McIlroy from perhaps, you know, 2 or 3 events and maybe some of the Asian Tour Events he might not play those now that he has to play 15 on the PGA Tour, and of course hopefully 4 of the FedEx Cup events but no anger, no. I think it's always been, you know, pretty obvious that Rory McIlroy's future lies on the PGA Tour, the courses here suit his game and this is where it's at really for Rory. -He's also been in the news over the last couple of weeks since he's won the U.S. Open. First with his comments about he doesn't particularly like like style courses, and then of course the Twitter back and Forth with Jay Townsend, where he told Jay Townsend via tweet to shut up, that his opinion doesn't mean anything, where-how did that play at home? What did it catch more flack for, saying what he said on Twitter or saying what he said about the courses that are link style? -He probably got more flack for what he said on Twitter, but not for what he said as such put for the way he said it, the personal and nature of the comments about Jay Townsend, but you know what people love about Rory McIlroy is that he always gives a very honest answer, he says what he thinks, and I think what happened at the Open that time, which was perhaps just a little bit of a guilt reaction to, you know, to having a bad day on the golf course and perhaps some of the questioning that might have, maybe irritated him a little bit, but, you know Rory McIlroy is well able to play in the wind, his coach will tell you he's well able to play in the wind and I think, you know, we'll see him when many in better shape but maybe not in a scale force conditions, but certainly he'll win a few. But the Twitter thing, you know, a lot of people did back him up for what he said, for standing up for his caddy and that's fair enough, but perhaps, as her said yesterday, admitted that maybe he could have said it just a little bit differently and not got on Twitter in the heat of the moment, after finishing with a double bogey in the Irish Open that day. -You know Brian, he have reached out to 2 tour officials of the U.S. PGA Tour yesterday with respect to his interest in coming back. Do you know if he has made contact, if he had done it prior to reaching out to U.S. Tour Officials with respect to George O'Grady and anybody on the European Tour to let them know in advance that this is what he thought he was going to be doing? -No, I'm not aware of anything like that, I think you know, he is due to sit down with his agent, Chubby Chandler, I think in Atlanta on Monday and then just go over everything that's been said over yesterday and discuss what way they're gonna go about going forward and, you know Rory McIlroy doesn't like to play a huge number of events so he's schedule is going to be a bit of a headache for him next year. I think we'll see him play a fairly similar schedule to his friend Graeme McDowell perhaps just a couple events fewer, but, you know, he's gonna have to drop obviously a couple events in Europe but with the Writer Cup year as well, you know, he's gonna have to be very careful in picking where he's gonna play, but I'm not aware of any chats so far anyway with the European Tour. -Brian thank you very much for the perspective and being part of our program. We'd love to have you back on soon and have a great time at Tournament in Akron.
