DESCRIPTION
Big Break Indian Wells champion David Byrne takes the chair in the confessional to discuss his journey to eventually winning $70,000 and a start at the 2012 Zurich Classic of New Orleans.
TRANSCRIPTS
-I am the champion of Big Break Indian Wells, season
15 for the show. I have watched 14 seasons and
competed in 1. I've never missed a show. It was
an honor and a privilege getting to know the 10
guys in the house. It made me-- When I-- When
I hear everybody's story, it made me realize how fortunate
I was to have a mom who did the job
of 4 or 5 parents, you know, but I now--
I now have 80,000 dollars, an Adams Golf endorsement deal.
I am happening to be playing in the 2012 Zurich
Classic of New Orleans. That is a PGA Tour event.
Luke-- Coach Luke-- Luke LaFlave, I think I might need
a caddy, so I'm hoping you're up for it 'coz
that'd be pretty cool. It hasn't-- To be honest with
you, it hasn't really sunk in. I broke down a
couple times when I was getting all showered up after--
after everything kind of transpired there. I broke down 'coz
I have 80,000 dollars. That-- I'm used to seeing the
4 zeros behind the 8, just not necessarily the 8
in front of them. You know, it's-- it's definitely-- You
know, money isn't everything, but it helps and to able
to sort of put this money towards my golf career
and relocating to a place where I can play golf
year round and-- and paying off some student loans, it's--
it's a big relief. It's-- It's unbelievable. The fact that
I'm playing at a PGA Tour event is one of
those things that I've said to myself a couple of
times like oh hey you're playing in a PGA Tour
event like you were actually playing in a PGA Tour
Event. Wow! Man I cannot wait. Hello Bourbon Street. Hello
Louisiana. The Big Break was my first professional golf debut
and I think I handled it quite well. I handled
my nerves well. I really forgot about the money when
I was in the golf course, thank god. And I'm
just-- I'm-- I'm really lucky and really fortunate to have
met 10-- 10 great new friends, really. It's been an
amazing experience, you know, driving down to Orlando for the
audition, you know, the 20 hours down there and the
20 hours back and then during-- during Christmas before this
was filmed, I needed to go down to Florida to
practice so I drove about 24 hours a little bit
further South when the weather was better down there and--
and back up North, I stayed in-- at Amanda, my
girlfriend's sister's place, Amanda and Jimmy's house in Ohio for
a couple of days.
