David's friends, family, and seemingly half of his town join him to watch the finale of Big Break Indian Wells in this web-exclusive.
TRANSCRIPTS
-Hello. We're on the airplane in Orlando heading to Detroit
and then back to, you know, beautiful Essex. I'm here
with Erin, my girlfriend. Now, we're heading back to watch
the final party against Kent, the All-Canadian Final match. My
girlfriend is American. She's really happy about this. How do
you think that I'm going to fare? -That you'll win.
-How am I gonna do it? -I think you want
it. -You think I want it. Do you think it's
gonna be a close match? -You better win. -I better
win. Well, my relationship is on the line and also
a whole bunch of money. So hopefully, I'm still in
a relationship and have a little bit more of money
come Monday night. Now, my mom is on her way.
She doesn't know that I actually see her already and
she's walking. Now, does she look excited at all? She
doesn't seem very excited. -Hey. Hi. -Oh my God. -Hello.
How are you? -Hi, Erin. How are you? We are
gonna have a lot of fun. -Now, mom. -It's my
party and I'll cry if I want to. -Now, I
think either way, you're gonna be crying. -Well, I know.
-I lose or win, you cry. -No, listen. If you
win, I'm gonna cry. Okay, Erin if he wins, I'm
gonna cry. If he loses, I'm gonna cry because this
is like oh, my God. -Now, your excitement level on
a scale of 1 to 10. I put it later
on an 86. How would you rate that? -About that,
I just like every time I watch the show, it's
like I'm just a mess. -This is the morning of
the finale. So we're having, this party, a lot of
people have caught wind that I am home and so
more people are coming than we originally think and so
my mom made up a sign. What do this sign
say, mother? -It says quiet, please. -So. -Finishing it up.
The very first time I took David to a tournament
over in -[unk] Open. -The [unk] Open, he was just
a little guy and they had a sign and it
said stand. Now, we were sitting. David and I were
sitting around the green and when we saw the sign
go up, you know, I'm sure I experienced was pro-tournament.
It said stand, so David and I both stood up
and the golfer. -Right. -And the golfer. -Al Sutton and
his caddie. -And his caddie -Yeah. -Caught us and they
laughed. -That's right. It was Al Sutton and his caddie.
-David. You were just little when he did this, and
so you know I didn't want to put stand. I
forgot it there. So -So now we're gonna video again
tonight of this and being used and see how productive
it is. Guys. Golf Channel here. [unk]. What do you
think of tonight? -It's outstanding. -It's outstanding. -Right in here
your humble home here, [unk]. -And beautiful Essex. -Exactly. -Beautiful
Essex. So this place is filling up. So right now,
we've got about 100 people here. Look at this and
the party is getting started. -Dave is posing with the
guests here tonight at the Big Break Finale party in
Essex, Ontario. Dave. Tell us your thoughts tonight. -I just
don't know how it's gonna go, but it will be
fun and it's nice that you kinda go to the
emotions of everybody and the experience with everybody now. And
I'm assuming once the show is done there would be
a couple of minds going down and wants to, win
or lose, it's gonna be [unk]. Hey. Here's my mom.
Mom. Go get your sign. There is the big break
bag. -Okay. Hey, guys. Hey. It's coming on. Quiet. -Good
time. -[unk]. -David, your buddy here. He has made his
way out of jail free. It's a reaction of [unk].
-David [unk]. -Yeah. I didn't think of it as, you
know, this is my chance of winning. I just thought
of it as this putts for birdie and I'm so
sick of leaving every putt short, just get it to
the hole. -One big break. -[unk] -Just after the miss.
-Kent now has his putt to win the hole and
force this match into at least one extra hole. -You
know what you got to do. You got no more
options. -Now he's just got to deliver. He's got to
deliver good. He may get it. -[unk] -There's another missed
putt for Kent and what a nightmare he has had
in this finale. He's just 4 on the par with
the putt at one. -I caught how it is and
the bottom line is I could see why people think
I choke and I did. -Okay. I got 3 feet
or 3-1/2 feet to win the Big Break. -Here's the
moment, boy. -I realized how much my mom has done
for me. When I was younger, I used to bring
a flashlight with me to hit golf balls when my
mom was working until 11 at night. All those little
things, you know, creeping in your mind when you think
of all the hard work that my mom and I
had put forward to get me to where I am.
-Yeah. -Yeah, buddy. -Thanks, man. -Congrats. -I appreciate it. Thank
you. Really like this is actually just happened? -David Byrne
comes down from Canada and he finds the gold in
the desert. He is the winner of Big Break Indian
Wells. -That's some good play right there, man. -That's the
beginning of a career. -[unk] people. -Here's some people, we're
celebrating. -No big deal. -Well, I said he was gonna
come first. He's not gonna come in second, so I
thought he came first. So now we're going to New
Orleans. All right, so we brought a few, select a
few people back. Hey. Morning Drive, I'm gonna be on
that, gonna be on that Friday morning. -That's gonna cost
me a lot of money to go to New Orleans.
-We're going to New Orleans. Are you coming? -We're going
to Indian Wells. I drink to that. -I'm gonna take
up golf. -So tonight going through the emotions, what was
it like? -It was just unbelievable, kind of a lot
of commotion going on. I had to keep on asking
David like what's going on like what hole are we
on or whatever, but I'm just really proud of him.
And I want you to get a better car because
your car is not in good shape and I want
you to relax a little bit and concentrate on your
golf, so we're all going to Indian Wells. Oh no,
we're going to Indian Wells, but also no, we're going
to Zurich. -The Zurich Classic of New Orleans. -Yeah. We're
gonna go. I'm so proud of you, David. I can't
believe it. -Yeah. It's pretty crazy. That's mine. You know,
I used to run back home from working the clock
at the 73's games. -Yeah, you did, Dave. -And I
told you I'd be on the show. -No. Yeah, you
said that I want to be on that show some
day. -Yeah, pretty crazy. -Yeah. -Where do we go from
here, Dave? -Assuming you get better to play in the
Zurich Classic and make the cut? I think top 10
gets you in to the next week. That's what's gonna
have to happen. -If you guys win gets you 2
years on the tour bus. -That's all of this just
to win. -Between now and then though. -We got a
lot of work to do here. -Yeah, we do. -No,
you have a lot of work to do.
