-Previously on the Big Break VII. -The reunion. -We'll all play...

-Previously on the Big Break VII. -The reunion. -We'll all play 9 holes of golf stroke play. -Oh, my goodness. -You would've given him anything to fight for. He was just taking it and he was running with it. -Mike and Ashley at sudden death. -Ashley takes it with a par. We say goodbye to Mike Foster. -Winning the Big Break VII, I don't really think words can describe it what it would mean to win. It would show me that all of my hard work has paid off. You know it proved to me that I can go on to the next level and you know it would mean the world to me to win the Big Break VII. -Winning this show being the Big Break VII champion means the world to me right now. I'd love to win this. -I knew I was going to have the challenge of my life on the golf course. -Ashley had shown that she can hit some better shots but she was also showing what she can get it up and down with the best, so it's not gonna be easy. -I really and truly think anybody can win tomorrow. I really feel that if I play my game and try to stay relaxed and stay calm and go out there and trust myself that I can win. -I felt like I'm still the best player here but the thing about it is you don't have to feel like you're the best player. You just gotta perform. Hopefully it will be a win for myself, my friends, my family and South Carolina. -Predictions, I'm gonna win. That's the prediction right there. Plain and simple. No strings attached. I'm gonna win. -We have come a long way on Big Break VII but there is still a long way to go. We have reached our final 2 on Big Break VII, Tommy Gainey, Ashley Gomes. It's now up to you. The two of you will battle to determine the champion of Big Break VII, but before we get to that a tip of the hat to Mike Foster. Mike, well played on that opening night. -Thanks. Thank you. -Let's just say 10. Way to go, but there is much to play for just as we told you on that first episode. We have 50 thousand dollars on the line from Ginn Resorts including 25 thousand dollars in Ginn Resort lodging and hospitality credit and 25 thousand dollars cash to the winner. -You're also playing for an Adams Golf endorsement contract which includes 10 thousand dollars cash. -From our friends at Dick's Sporting Goods, a 10-thousand-dollar gift certificate. -And don't forget the all important exemptions. Tommy, the Nationwide Tour exemption for you and Ashley, an LPGA Tour exemption for you. -And to make sure you get there in style if you choose, the winner will receive a 2007 Chrysler Aspen, Chrysler's first full-sized SUV. So let's get it started here on number 1 at the Tom Watson Independence Course and a little bit different format, we are going to play 9 holes of match play. Tommy Gainey, it's your honor. You're first to the tee. Best of luck to both of you. -Watching him Play in the earlier match, he played great and I didn't and I knew this top of my game a lot if I had a chance of beating him. -And I went to the tee and I just took some deep breaths and try to realize I got 9 holes to play to win this thing. I need to refocus. I need to get right. I know the game she has. I know what I had to do. I had to hit a good tee shot and just put some pressure on her early on and see how she would handle it. I'm thinking about sending her a message right off to go. I hit it good. That's one of the times where I hit it this goes as far as I hit it and as straight as I hit it and it's consistent as I am I should tear off the par 5. -They're starting with the birdie hole right off the bat. It's going to be interesting to see who plays aggressively and this is actually the hole you can get a birdie quick and get a 1-up lead. -The last time I played the first hole was my match against Don and Laura and Pam when I went driver. I would 2-putt for birdie and I was happy to get back on to this hole because I knew I could do it again. I hit a great shot I think you know to come back with Tommy who had hyped the driver. He just nailed it so the fact that I you know pulled it into play and put in the fairway and hit likely in speaking volumes. -Big Break merchandise plus the complete series on DVD now available at GolfChannel.com. -Yes, she's playing Tommy. She's gonna have to be aggressive. She's gonna have to go for everything and I think she's gonna do that. -Tommy has about 223 to the hole again playing downhill. The breeze is slightly in their face. I'm guessing he's going with the 5-iron here. -This after a 321-yard drive. -Ashley was right there beside me. She outdrove me by 3 or 4 yards. I was first to play so that was good in a way. I could put some pressure on her. -Go. -Get up. -Go, go, go, go. -Oh. -Go. -Go. -It's gotta go when it's gotta go down. -Odd ball keep going to the hole. -Oh yes. -Yes. -Drive a 5-iron to 20 feet, put that down in par 5. -it's not normal for somebody to hit that far. -So now the pressure was on Ashley to answer. -Well Ashley knows right now she at least has to get a birdie on this hole. -I wasn't nervous at all. I was a lot less nervous playing against Tommy than I was playing against Mike and Tommy. First hole you always wanna do something awesome. -Go. -She's on the front fringe and it's gonna be a tough 2-putt from there but definitely possible. -Well Tommy is putting for eagle right now right out of a gate. -This is gonna be good. -It's a crucial up and down I have. Ashley needs to get a half on this hole. If Tommy gets the momentum it's gonna be tough for her. -She had a tough putt. I mean she had at least 60 to 70 feet and to go over that big mountain over that slope and then going down the slope, it's not an easy putt. -I'm thinking to myself no, you don't wanna be over-risked but you don't wanna leave it way short but you don't wanna be overaggressive again you know and it's hard on the long putt like that to really get a good feeling of how hard you're supposed to hit the ball. -Go, go. -Go a little. -I think it's good. Go, go, go. -Go. -Go. -Go. -Go. -Go. -Alright, Ash. -And it took a little steam after trying to get over that ridge yes. -It did and I think she thought that was gonna be a lot faster coming down that hill and I had to admit that I did too. -In my terms that's a good putt from 60 to 70 feet. I think. -Tommy with a big opportunity here makes this eagle putt, got the early lead. -Get in there. -Good job. -Right know, he definitely set the standard for the match. -I was pumped because that right there that eagle just won me the first hole and it took the putter right out of Ashley's hands. -The second hole is a short par 4, kind of a risk/reward. -All the trouble was short, 270 to carry the bunkers on the right. So I took a driver I said there ain't no way I'm laying up and bringing all this trouble into play. If I bomb driver down there and I got a pretty you know simple pitch up on the green. -That is a bold play right there. -Tommy is making this look like-- -The pitching putt? -He's shrinking this course. -Yes. -I think it's gonna be tough for Ashley now that she lost that hole to get the momentum to fight Tommy because Tommy is a good player and I think Ashley's gonna have to fight and I'm hoping that it didn't sort of take the air out her bubble there. -I tried to shake it off and I tried to make it like I don't wanna, you know eagle, you know. How are you gonna compete against an eagle? It happens but I definitely was rattled. -It's one of those moments when you're on the golf course and you have a really negative thought into your brain and you can't get it out and as soon as I hit it I know I was in trouble. I had a few words for myself and that moment and the rest of them there I have. -The beautiful Ginn Reunion Resort in Central Florida graciously served as host of the Big Break VII. Dine at fine restaurants, play tennis on Centre Court, or get wet on the onsite Water Park and Pool Pavilion. Ginn Reunion Resort, it's a place where you belong. -They found Ashley's ball and she has absolutely no shot at all so he's forced to take an unplayable lie. -Go for bogey, like hit it on and hopefully tell me I'll make a mistake because they're not gonna have a good lie especially in the waste bunker. -See what she can do. She has 73. It's her 3rd shot. -Good. -At that moment in time, I was still trying to be positive with my thoughts and my shotmaking. It was just an ugly shot after ugly shot. -She's looking at 5 at best, 6 at worst and you know I'm laying 1. I hit my 2nd shot again. I'm in good shape. -Tommy has a decision here. He's a smart play here. You know he's not to really attack that hole, play just to the left, get himself a 2-putt for par and get out of here with the wind. -Wow. -Can't believe he did that. -Oh my God. -I can't believe he got such a little pressure on him but he got lazy I guess. -It's not a very good shot but you know it's not a bad shot either. -It's a struggle. It's battling yourself out there. You can make this chip and you can par and when you go you have no idea what's gonna happen. -It is good, Tommy. -Game over, yes. Just pick up your ball. Let's go to the 3rd hole. -That's another hole for me. I'm to work like a 2. I mean that's a big advantage for me. -I was hoping for a Mulligan somewhere, somewhere. You know there has to be a Mulligan challenge where I can just get a shot back. -Well Tommy has the honors here at the par 3, 3rd. It's a downhill par 3. What really comes into play are those greenside bunkers. -I've played this game well enough, man. Let me tell you. Anything is possible in this game. Anything can happen at any given time. I found that out first off. -For a player like Tommy that generates so much spin, he also has to keep in mind the slope behind the pin. He can actually use that to advantage, laying it on top and spin it back. -Be right. Be right. -It was like kind of at that moment where if he hit that shot and I just kind of went into freak out mode, think oh my God. If I pull it or push it or towed it down the green and don't waste time, I'm gonna be 3 down after 3 like and just shoot me off because I'm already dead, you know. If I'm 3 down after 3 I have no chance of coming back. -Good shot. -Come on, take it now. -I didn't hit it well by any means. It was right and it was thin. It was mediocre at best. -So both have putts for birdie. Who's going down first? -I tried to talk myself into being aggressive and getting it the hole. -So 2-down after 2 holes, Ashley needs to start little fire and for game right here. -Well she really does and you know she needs a little feel good moment here and this kind of part working just that. -Get in that hole. -Go. -It was like I was so scared to hit it and so scared to go past the pin which is usually not how I play and I left myself a 6-footer which after I'm 2-down after 2 holes that is not the spot where I wanted to leave it. -After playing such a bad hole and hitting such bad shots that she did maybe I'd play with her head a little bit. -Okay, so Tommy with an opportunity to go 3-up after 3, this birdie putt. -If it goes in that's fine. If it don't, that's fine too. I just take par. After she left it 5 feet short I'll just take anything around a foot around the hole. Oh wow. Oh that's a nice putt. First I'll finish that. -It's what? -It's good. -As soon as the ball stopped, she said good. With her having 5 feet left, for her to say that, that was very surprising for me. -Please do something. I mean if she don't make this, it's gonna be tough. -Don't think about what's happened on the first 2 holes. Don't think about what might happen on the next you know 6 holes. You need to make this putt right now. -Yes. -Great, Ash. -Good job. -Alright. Ashley. -Good putt. -Big putt there. -She made the putt that she needed to make and you know we're going the 4th tee. -This 4th hole is a dogleg right par 4. You can see that the fairway is guarded by fairway bunkers on both left and right sides. And for Tommy off the tee to carry that left fairway bunker it's 233 which certainly no problem for him. The thing that he's gonna have to consider is driving it through this fairway. -Oh God. I tell you. That hole I got bad memories about that hole. That's the hole we had the driver challenge on and I made no points of the ultimate immunity. I missed the grid by a foot and a half last time. I said well 20 yards back should be pretty good. I mean I should be able to hit the fairway. Are you kidding me? Hit it through the fairway again. -We all knew that you just hit it over the trees and you're gonna be in the fairway and so it wasn't even a question. I was just going straight over those trees. I even got in the right rough but I had a clear shot into the green. -We're definitely pulling for both Tommy and Ashley. -No I'm not. I'm rooting for Tommy. I have to be honest. -Oh okay. Well-- -I'm rooting for Tommy absolutely. -Well both Ashley and Tommy are gonna have looks into the green now on their 2nd shots. -Now the best angle has to go with Tommy right here. Ashley is gonna have to contend with that greenside bunker on the right. Tommy has a clear shot to the hole. -You have to hit the pitching wedge. -Pitching wedge? -Yes. -You have a nice strong smooth shot there buddy. -Oh he's definitely a striker and go out probably. A lot of has-- -On the speed and a lot of sight. Got a lot of sights. -His distance control today is really good. I mean and that's huge. That's probably what he battles most. -I would say that I'm feeling so good about my game. I would say the confidence factor is probably the highest it's ever been for me. -Be right. -Like 13 feet from the hole which was a good shot, a good distance control because it was pin high. -He knows Tommy is not gonna back off. She knows Tommy is gonna keep hitting good shots and she's gonna have to step it up to keep up with her. -That situation you know anyone's gonna start overthinking and overanalyzing every shot and every little piece of you know grass that's gone in the air and the wind and everything. Needed to just have a strategy and stick with it and hit my shot. -Great, Ash. -Because I hit a really nice shot and I finally felt like I took a good swing and it went a good like 30 feet past the pin. -Ashley has a long way home here. -Back of the green putting back down towards the hole downhill. -And nothing too tricky about it, maybe just outside the left edge. You need a little bit of excitement going on. I have seen any situation like that you want to make the putt. -That's good. -It definitely was frustrating because I've been putting so well and that's you know as soon as I get into the real pressure, I can't get a putt to the hole so I was definitely getting irritated with myself. -Everybody knows man, the harder you try in this game, the worst you hit it. -Alright. Here's Tommy Gainey for birdie and a 3-up lead. -This was just an awful putt but she said it was good. So I'm still 2-up after 4 holes. -Okay, number 5 is a slightly dogleg left par 4, also playing downhill a bit and as you can see this fairway really starts to narrow. Fairway bunkers on the right and for Tommy it is going to be 271 to reach those bunkers. -I'm starting to feel like I need to make another birdie so I can put more pressure on her because if I do that, and this is gonna put her in a situation where she could be almost dormie with just a few holes left. Anything short of winning, hey I'm not wanna be happy with it. -Cut. -What a shot. What a shot. -Cut. It was a bad swing. I just lost total concentration when I hit that shot. -Stephanie we're on the 5th hole here and we're to almost a panic mode but we're in to serious concern mode right now. -It's time for her to make a move. You know you can't leave a lot of windows open for Tommy especially with his iron game. It's time for her to reverse the tables and start sticking it close and making some birdies. -You don't have a lot of time but I told myself if I just stayed calm, you know everything would be okay and I had confidence in myself. -Hit a great drive, you know at a time that I needed it. -Right side, she's gonna have a great angle to this hole. Definitely a lot easier angle at this hole location than Tommy who's in the left rough. -I had 161 to the pin. In between pitching wedge and 9-iron, so I took the 9-iron and just made the decision. I said I'm swinging and it's no good. Just take it, choke down on the grip and just swing it. Be right. So the pressure still building on her to hit the shot. -Who needs to hit it in the fairway? Not him. -No. He's been a machine as far as giving himself great opportunities at birdie. And his 2nd shots iron placed perfect. -But Ashley on the other hand, 148 yards to this hole. She has a lot more green to work with because of the angle she's coming in to this hole from the right side of that fairway. -It was time to start playing some golf, hit it like you know how to hit the golf ball, Ashley. I mean you're out here playing like you're a junior golfer, like swing through the club and hit it where you want it to go. -Go. -Come on, come on. -Right edge. -Come on. -Get down. -Go in. -Get in. -Oh. -She put the fear in me a little bit and I was kind of nervous. -It's a go time. I was ready. -The Big Break VII finale has been presented by Idea Irons, the number 1 hybrid irons in golf. -You have to give some credit here to Ashley Gomes for standing up to the force that has been Tommy Gainey throughout this championship over the first night it certainly now the 2nd in striking distance and about 5 feet from the cup and looking at birdie. -This could be a huge momentum swing for her after losing the first 2 holes, a birdie here, If Tommy misses, that's maybe exactly what she needs to turn this match around. -I got to make a run at this one because obviously you gotta think 5 or 6 feet the way she rolls a rock. She's gonna make it. No question. Oh it put pressure on me but I wasn't thinking about the pressure the way I'm rolling the putter and as confident as I am right now, you know I can make it. -It's good. -On this stage he just stepped for Ashley right here, 5 feet to birdie at the cut Tommy Gainey's leading half with 4 holes to play. -The nerves were definitely creeping into my head and you wanna prove that you're here to play and you're here to win. Be firm, be aggressive and have a confident stroke. -Come on partner. -I have to make this. -Good. -It's an inexcusable putt and I needed to make that putt and I needed to put the pressure on him and I didn't. -I felt like I caught a break there because normally she would make that putt 8 out of 10 times. -I was beyond mad. I was absolutely furious at myself. I'm so mad that not only had I gotten to that point where I was already 2 down but I finally had an opportunity to come back and show that I could golf and just show that you know I can do this too and I can't make a 6-footer. It's-- yes, it's frustrating. -This is a slight dogleg left par 4, very short with a couple of different options of how you can play this hole. You can see there's a fairway bunker that runs right in the middle. Best place to be is along the right side, gives you an open shot to the hole. -They knew I'm gonna take any chances of laying up and maybe catching a bad kick or catching it real good and it goes in that bunker and then now I've got 125-yard bunker shot with the lips on that bunker pretty steep so I don't wanna take any chances on that so I'm just gonna bomb driver right over it. It should be alright. Oh, that's alright. -I first saw that Tommy had gone to the right rough and I just didn't feel like driver was the play I needed. It was gonna bring me down into a weird yardage with my wedges and so I thought if I hit my 5-wood, I would have about 115 into the hole. -Oh no. She pulled it. -Okay. It's left, she's alright. -Safely in the fairway. She'll have little less green to work with than Tommy but she still got a shot, see what she can do. -Ashley has 118 yards to the hole. -On this left side is just visually less appealing because all the things that come into play-- -And it's guarded by that greenside bunker. -Anything can happen. You never know what your competitor is gonna do because they're just as never says you felt like being aggressive and getting close like that was gonna put the pressure on Tommy. -Get down, sit. Get down -Down. Go. -Get down. -Right on it. -Move, move, move, move. -Oh. -Yes. -She's down in with the iron. She needs to get that same mojo working with her putter. -So she'll have another look at birdie here. -I said wow. She has a good shot here. She had a serious chance of making birdie for what she wills and I knew that I knew to hit a good shot, to get it up there on the top level with the pin and have a good putt at birdie. -Man, how about that one? -Can't believe it because my ball was sitting down pretty good in that rough and to hit the shot that make it stop that quick surprised me. -Couple of birdie putts here, couple of birdie tries. -This is what it's been coming down to green after green so another opportunity for Ashley to chip away at Tommy's lead. -I wanted to prove that I wasn't backing down. -In these pressure situations that she's been under, she's performed well. -The Big Break VII finale has been presented by Chrysler. Chrysler, inspiration come standard. -If you wanna talk about 2 very realistic chances, very easy putts, not a lot of break, Tommy will be the first to go. -We always got to say an opponent is gonna make the putt. That way you can concentrate on your putt even. -What are you thinking? Is he gonna make this? -No. -Is she gonna make hers? -She's gonna make hers. You heard it first from double D, Don Donatello. I only feel that way because I feel the momentum changing. -It's good. -So Ashley a missed opportunity on that last hole. She has again another look at birdie. This putt is not gonna do a lot. It's fairly straight. -You just wonder how many of these opportunities she's actually gonna have in a match okay. She's gonna hit this. -She had 10 or 12 feet left for her birdie. I figured that after missing some of the putts she's missed in the past few holes, I figured it was about time for her to make one. You know the odds have to be in her favor. -Alright, Ashley. You know what you gotta do. -I need to make this putt. You know if you have any hope or chance of survival now it's the time to make a putt. -The pressure is unbelievable on her now. -Don't wait until you have 3 holes left to start trying to make a comeback. Like you need to start making a comeback now. -Oh. -She didn't hit it hard enough. -I did the exact same thing I had done on the hole before. Down 2 with 7 to go is a bad feeling, but down 2 with 3 feeling is like you're hopeless. -It's starting to feel like I'm gonna win this tournament. I don't show much emotions. I like to keep kind of a steady pace as far as emotions because in this game the emotions can get the best of you if you let it and scared can get the best of you if you let it. -Well here we are at the par 3, 7th on the Independence Course. This was the site of Don Donatello's demise earlier on the series and Tommy Gainey winning this hole means winning Big Break VII. -That just added more pressure to me to make it because when you have a chance to close somebody out, you better do it. It's not an easy par 3 when you're talking about like that and that's-- you still gotta hit a good shot there. -Wow. -Wow. Nice play. -It's good show. -That's pretty strong start right there. -He's definitely stepping up and forcing Ashley to make a big play here. -Just praying that something good is about to happen. -She has to fire right at it. It isn't gonna-- -She didn't have any choice. She's 2-down, 3 holes to go. She's got to fire at the pin. -I definitely knew I did not wanna be right. I didn't wanna have to hit a wonder shot from the waste bunker or behind you know a slope on the hill to get up and down. -She's not out of this. -No. -At all. You know she's hit some really impressive iron shots the last couple of holes, hasn't been able to make the putts but she makes a putt here, Tommy misses. She's back in there. -I just knew that a nice 5-iron was gonna give me a good shot into the pin. -So just off the green on that left fringe but a very makeable putt off that hill. -It's not as creative as you like to play this hole. It will work. -You know I just go for the green this time. -Just 2-putt this one here. -Will be in pretty decent shape going into the next hole. -I can feel like you know what it's like to be there and just nervous for them. -Getting down to the last couple of holes here. She knows she needs to win a hole and hit a good shot. I just wanna make pars. You make enough pars, let your opponents make the mistakes instead of you making them yourself. I thought you hit a better shot than that, Ash. -We're not getting in too close. -I'd love to. -Don't doubt that. -Playing for the trophy, the car and all the other prizes that come with it. I started to get nervous. -I mean, I mean. I just could not believe that I just did that. I couldn't believe it. Just a bad putt, bad stroke. -So there is this slight sliver of hope that was still in the back of my brain that I was gonna just start making miracles happen. -More photos and exclusive video of each Big Break contestant available online at GolfChannel.com. -What a lie for Gomes here and life. -She needs it. -Every ray of light she can get right now. -I didn't play very well but I was trying my damn best to go out there and beat him. When Tommy hadn't made his putt and so I wanted to make mine but I still was okay with alright you know. If you don't make it, just put it to you know a foot. Just tap it in and let's go to 8th and be dormie and you know come back and beat him on 8th and 9th and then we'll go into extra holes. -Let me tell you something. This would be huge if she made this. You might see a little fist-pump, might not see a boo yah if I wasn't that serious. -I've done everything pretty much as well as I can so I watch her putt hers. -It's an aggressive putt there. I tried to talk myself into being aggressive and getting it past the hole and I was just so intimidated by the greens and I think by playing against Tommy and you know I left it way short and now it was just a poor attempt. -Well this is a must-make for her. -You tried to stay calm and try to tell yourself you know it's just like any other day. You're just out in the golf course but you know it's not-- yes I definitely knew I had to make that putt. -And for Ashley who's throughout the series she had some pressure back to putts, so let her down here in the end. -It was probably the most unfocused I've been over a putt since I've been here. -Surprised me, surprised me that she missed it. -It's right there. So many of Tommy Gainey's dreams, so much of his hard work. So much of the years of practicing. It's all there right in front of him. Just a couple of feet away. -Tommy makes this putt, you're looking at your Big Break VII champion. -I got over it. I took a deep breath. -Yes, Tommy. -Wow. -Tommy. -Tommy wins 3 and 2. -I was shocked. I was speechless. I was very proud of myself but I was just shocked and this caught me by surprise how it ended. -I wish I had played better and I wished I represented myself a little bit better but you know some days you just don't have it. He earned it. I was happy for him. Tommy, he's a great guy. He really is the typical Southern gentleman. -My goal is to make it to the PGA Tour so I gotta get used to the camera being on me and people watching so I might as well start right now trying to get focused on what I need to do and to be on the show trying to win this prize, the trophy and compete against these players here, sweet. It was a mental and physical grind for me for these 12 episodes and I have to take my hats off to the competitors because they pushed me to the limits. -Wow. -It was definitely a reunion. Just a group of really interesting and dynamic people that all came together. -Where to start? -Where shall we begin? -Oh, we got drama. -It's been great. I wasn't able to come into this Big Break with my 8-iron. What can you say? You can't have everything in life. I gotta make it. -We missed you getting here. -Yes. How nice. -What better opportunity than have all these cameras in your face and the whole world watching you to see if you can really hit a shot when you need to. -I think being a part of the show VI and VII has given me a lot more confidence and I'm able to believe in myself and believe I can get to the LPGA. It's just a matter of time. -I'm fired up. It is on today. -Well you're out there. Boy, this golf feels important. -I realized that I have to be focused in my children. I have to give it all that I have for them. -You know have for along the ways, smell the roses and the flowers and just be a good guy. Here you are. -I've got wonderful family, wonderful husband, 2 young boys. There's a wonderful experience but I've got a good place to go home to. -I didn't feel like I was getting the banner for Big Break I.
