-The final match of last year's WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship was delayed by snow, and you can usually count on being cold at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club. I wanna give you a tip on helping you play a little bit better golf when it gets a little bit cold, and it's as simple as this. Most of you when you're out there and it's cold, you're gonna have a lot of stuff on. You're gonna have some sweaters; you're gonna have some jackets, and what typically is gonna happen is when you're playing, because you have all these stuff on, you don't make as complete a swing. So what I want you to do is I want you to make a fuller turn as simple as that, and one of the ways that you can make a fuller turn is by taking your right foot or your trail foot and just dropping it back. When we play a little bit close right here, it's gonna allow that hip to turn just a little bit more, which is gonna free up the shoulder to turn a little bit more, and we're gonna make a fuller swing. Now, with all that stuff on, we tend to make that shorter swing. So, what we're gonna do is we're gonna get setup. It's very simple to do. You get setup like this and then all you're gonna do is you're just gonna drop that foot back just a little bit, and then you're gonna allow those hips to move. And what's gonna happen is as you start to do that, you're gonna make a fuller swing and that fuller swing is probably gonna get you back to where you normally would get to if you didn't have all that stuff on. Okay? All right, Martin, we've got that backswing faded out, what have you got? -Thanks, Michael. No matter what the condition is, nobody putted better than Luke Donald in 2011. Not only did he win both the PGA and European Tour Money Titles, but he also led both tours in putting average. Unbelievable. Now, how did he do that? Well, I believe that he probably spent a lot of time working on the mechanics of his stroke at home, and then did all the touch stuff on the greens. You need to work on your mechanics at home so you know you can start the ball in the right direction. Here is a very good way to do that. I don't know if Luke Donald does this, but a lot of people do. I've got my elevated aim line, my string line above the ball, and I've taken 2 driving range tees. Now, I put them about 2 feet down my line, and I've given myself just a little bit of clearance there that if I start that ball straight, which probably means my putter face was pretty square, then my ball should pass through those 2 tees. This string is not necessary to swing straight back straight through. It just gives me a reference to aim with. And can I start that ball on my chosen line? Apparently, I can. I know if I can start it on line. The only thing you've got to worry about then is distance control. Great thing to do if you want to putt better. Thanks for joining us on GolfChannel.com for the Best in Golf Instruction. Whether you're playing in cold weather or trying to make more putts, Michael's tip and mine are sure to help you at home, on the pros of the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship putt better.
